Paying for Praise
Here’s another example of why comment sections of web sites are the cesspool of humanity:
Bloomberg reports that Samsung has been accused of paying students to post anonymous comments on tech sites and forums and bash HTC.
“Posts to online forums are alleged to have included criticism of rival smartphones, including those made by HTC, and praise of Samsung’s products, Sun said. HTC has been asked to provide information, while Samsung has yet to be contacted by the commission, he said.”
Samsung claims that this was a misunderstanding, but someone somewhere initiated this. It is interesting how far companies will take their marketing campaigns to gain a few customers.
I often go to message boards and look at comments to see what people think of a product, because I find it to be a good indicator of quality. But if the allegations are true, it is certainly discouraging and will tarnish Samsung’s repution.
